Ilaria Maresi presented poster on Semantic models at SWAT4HCLS 2019

December 13, 2019 | By Ilaria Maresi

Ilaria Maresi, Data Engineer and Consultant at The Hyve, had a chance to present our work on semantic models at the SWAT4HCLS conference in Edinburgh this week.

Data used and created throughout the process of drug discovery will often remain siloed in research-specific systems and databases. The lack of interconnectedness between data makes it challenging to pose queries that span across all processes of drug discovery, from early-stage research to clinical trials. However, simply breaking down data silos could prove disruptive and costly. Using semantic models data can be effectively linked across their silos, enabling universal querying and thus increasing the value of existing data.

About SWAT4HCLS

Semantic Web Applications and Tools for Healthcare and Life Sciences (SWAT4HCLS) is a venue for presenting and discussing novel ideas, experiences and issues in the application of semantic and web technologies in the biomedical domain at large.

Starting in 2008, SWAT4HCLS has been held continuously for more than 10 years, expanding from a one day workshop to a four-day event composed of tutorials, conference and hackathon.

SWAT4HCLS intends to provide an open and vibrant discussion space cross-cutting across academia, industry and institutional participants.
